21st March 2006:
The other day, a friend asked me if I'd heard about a new FF7 spinoff called, Dirge of Cerberus starring the demonic Vincent. I replied, "Heard about it? I've got it!" He didn't believe me...
Here are the facts. I recently recieved it through means of Japanese import as it has only just been released in Japan. This also came at a price. I can't understand/read Japanese. The only words in English are, OK, CANCEL, NEW GAME, LOAD GAME, OPTIONS and PLAY ONLINE. I didn't care about language though I just wanted to play. Here's how it went:
15:00-01:30 played the game...
09:00-11:00 completed the game...
So in theory it only took me around 12 hours to do.
Don't get me wrong, that doesn't mean it's an easy/short game, I just kept playing.
Anyway.Vincent is back, bigger, badder and better than ever, looking to pop a cap in any ass that gets in his way. Gameplay is good; Anyone who's ever played Gungrave will be familliar with the gameplay. You run around as Vincent shooting up anything that moves and anything that doesn't move. If you manage to fill your magic bar, hold down L1+R1 to make Vincent transform into his beast form for a short while. (He's like the Hulk but better)
Weapon equipping is a little difficult to explain. The idea is that you combine different gun barrels and grips to adapt to your current situation.
Grips:
-Pistol
-Shot gun/Rifle
-Machine gun
Barrels:
-Long
-Normal
-Short/Sawn-off
So if you need a sawn-off shotgun, you got it!
Also you can add things to your guns to increase thier attributes such as:
-Scopes/Sights
-Pendants
-Enhancers
All the original cast make an appearance. Even Sephiroth. (Only in a flashback though)
You will be able to play as one other member of the FF7 crew for a one off sneaky mission. Who you ask? Barret? Cid? Cloud? Red? Tifa? Yuffie? Aeris? Oh wait she's dead. Guessed yet? No? It's Cait Sith! (Hoo and may I add Ray...) Two foot high, (if that) with no weapons and very small HP. As soon as the mission started I was left screaming, "No, god no! Why him, why!"
